Court Adjourns Hearing On El-Zakzaky’s Bail Application Till August

The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the hearing on the bail application of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. The court fixed August 2 following the arraignment of El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, by the state government on Wednesday. The Shiite leader and his wife were charged with eight counts bordering on culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disturbance of public peace, among other allegations.

They were first arraigned on May 15, 2018, when the court adjourned the hearing on the application for their bail till June 21. However, the matter could not be heard as scheduled due to the absence of the judge and the case was later adjourned till today, for the continuation of hearing on their bail application. Ahead of their arraignment, the police had blocked all the roads leading to the court and diverted vehicles attempting to use the roads to alternative routes.

The diversion was part of measures by the Command to prevent any breakdown of law and order by the Shiite members who have been carrying out a series of protests to demand their leader’s release. The police had also cautioned the Shiites against embarking on any form of unauthorised procession or protest in the state.

FAYOSE address Channels TV after surviving Assassination

The sitting governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Ayo Fayose, addressed live Channels TV coverage after surviving assassination attempt.

He raised alarm, "I am in pains. I am in severe pains... If anything happens to me the security agencies should be held responsible... The International Community is hearing me". And he wept as his aides led him away.

Prof Olusola Eleka then addressed live Channel TV. He explained that the security forces shot into the air, physically rough handled Gov Fayose (hit him with gun butt) and fired tear gas at him.

He also added that, "they also rough handled me (Eleka). And while they were rough handling me I asked if they are still aware that I am still the Deputy Gov and they responded that they were acting on order from above".

In his own reaction, Mr. Habila Joshak, the police officer that led the operation said they were only trying to stop PDP from holding rally."

One Mr. Jegede that spoke with Arise News247 correspondent described the situation as "height of tyranny"; insisting that it was an assassination attempt against the governor. Stressing further that the policemen shot into the air, and that they also fired tear gas at Gov Fayose, "and they truly rough handled the governor, his deputy and wounded some of their supporters. This is height of tyranny and this is a democratic regime", he concluded.

MAN CITY sign Mahrez from Leicester City

Manchester City have completed the signing of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester for £60 million (€68m/$80m).

The 27-year-old winger joins the Premier League champions on a five-year deal after the two sides reached an agreement.

“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola,” Mahrez told the club's website.

The news brings an end to a deal that had long been in the making. Mahrez had come close to joining City when they made an offer for him on the final day of the transfer window in January, while he submitted a transfer request to the Foxes.

Although Leicester rejected the bid and City backed out, Pep Guardiola suggested afterwards that they would return for him in the summer.

FAYOSE "teargassed" by Police, PDP Alleges

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has raised alarm over the alleged inhumane treatment of Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, in the hands of security operatives, alleging that he was 'teargassed' and attacked.

The party took to its official Twitter account (@OfficialPDPNig) to raise the alarm on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
The party alleged that the governor was pulled off the floor after security operatives, allegedly acting on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari, took over his office at the Ekiti State Government House in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The post read, "Happening now at the Ekiti State government house, Ado Ekiti. Security operatives on the instructions of President @MBuhari has taken over @GovAyoFayose's office. Teargassed him and pulling him on the floor. See images below. Template for 2019 Elections."
The governor's aide, Lere Olayinka, later took to his own Twitter account (@OlayinkaLere) to disclose that the governor is currently receiving treatment at the Government House clinic after he was hit by a teargas canister fired by policemen.
While it remains unclear what led to the governor's hospitalisation, he had earlier raised alarm over armed police officers blocking the entrance of the Government House, accusing them of shooting their firearms.
The governor took to his Twitter account (@GovAyoFayose) on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, to accuse the All Progressives' Congress (APC) of using the officers to intimidate his government ahead of the state's July 14 gubernatorial election.
He first tweeted, "This is the entrance to Ekiti Govt House now blocked by gun wielding mobile policemen. The plan is to prevent our victory walk slated for today but we will remain undeterred. Power of God and the people will prevail over Federal Power."
Minutes later, he posted again, "Heavy shooting now going on in front of Ekiti Govt house by armed policemen brought by the APC."
The governor has on several occasions accused the APC of using the influence of the federal government to intimidate and victimise his government ahead of the election.

Officers stopped PDP rally - Police

According to a report by Channels Television, security operatives had earlier dispersed supporters of the PDP from holding a rally at Fajuyi Park in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, with gunshots reportely fired into the air.
Governor Fayose tried to lead supporters back to the venue but was rebuffed by security operatives who fired shots into the air again, prompting the relocation of the rally to the Government House.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Operations, Joshak Habila, told Channels Television that the move was to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state capital and other parts of Ekiti ahead of the election.

PDP vs APC in Ekiti

With Fayose's second term as Ekiti governor set to end, his deputy, Prof. Kolapo Olusola of the PDP, is one of the biggest candidates in the state's upcoming gubernatorial election. He is set to battle a former governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi of the APC in the election scheduled to take place in three days.
The PDP has accused Fayemi, also a former Minister of Mines and Steel Development, of being a stooge for the federal government, controlled by the APC, to take Ekiti State by any means necessary.
Fayose is one of the most vocal voices of opposition in the country and is set to contest as president in the 2019 election against incumbent, President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he has a very public feud with.

THE MEANING OF RESTRUCTURING AS CANVASSED BY SOUTHERN NIGERIA BY~Chief Olu Falae

You know I am a leader in the South West and at the National convention, I was elected as the leader of the Yoruba delegation. So, I am central to the Yoruba position. The Yoruba position is my position and it is the same position I canvassed in my book, ‘The way forward for Nigeria’ which I launched since 2005 in Lagos.

What we mean by restructuring is going back to the Independence Constitution which our leaders negotiated with the British between 1957 and 1959. It was on that basis that the three regions agreed to go to Independence as one united country. So, it was a negotiated constitution. This is because, if the three regions were not able to agree, there would not have been one united independent Nigeria. But because the three regions at that time negotiated and agreed to package a constitution, that is why they agreed to go to Independence together. When the military came in 1966 and threw away the constitution, they threw away the negotiated agreement among the three regions, which was the foundation of a united Nigeria.

So, the military did not only throw away the constitution but a political consensus negotiated and agreed by our leaders of the three regions in those days. When we say restructuring now, we are saying let us go back substantially to that constitution which gave considerable autonomy to the regions. For example, each region at that time collected its revenue and contributed the agreed proportion to the centre. But when the military came, they turned it round and took everything to the centre. That could not have been accepted by Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe or Obafemi Awolowo.

This constitution we are using was made by late Gen Sani Abacha, Abdulsalam Abubakar  and the military; and (Abacha and those who drafted this 1999 fraud) came from only one part of Nigeria, so he wrote a constitution that favoured his own part of Nigeria. That is why I am saying, let us restructure and go back to what all of us agreed before. That is the meaning of restructuring.

The regions used to be federating units, but in today’s Nigeria, they would now be called federal regions because states have been created in the regions. So in the West, you now have federation of Yoruba states which would belong to the Nigerian union at the centre. So, it is not like the region of old with all the powers. No. It is now going to be a coordinator of the states in the zone. That is what we mean by restructuring. And the regions would have a considerable autonomy as they used to have. For example, for the younger people, they may not know that every region then had its own constitution.

There were four constitutions at independence –the Federal constitution, Western constitution, Eastern constitution and Northern constitution. That was how independent they were and every region had an ambassador in London. The ambassadors for the regions were called Agent General so that you do not confuse them with that of Nigeria then called High Commissioner. So, Nigeria had four ambassadors in London. The ambassador for Nigeria then called a High Commissioner was M.T Mbu. The ambassador for Eastern Nigeria then was Mr Jonah Chinyere Achara, Western Nigeria was Mr Omolodun and for Northern Nigeria, it was Alhaji Abdulmalik. There were four of them. That was the kind of arrangement we agreed to, but the military threw it away and gave us this over-centralised unitary constitution.

So, we said this is not acceptable any more; we must go back to the negotiated constitution which gave considerable autonomy to the regions, so that they can compete in a healthy manner. For example, Chief Obafemi Awolowo wanted to introduce free education in the West and other regions said they could not afford it, but he went ahead to introduce it in the Western region. He said he wanted to pay a minimum of five shillings a day, while others were paying two and three shillings. He went ahead and passed the law, making five shillings the minimum wage in Western Nigeria.

There was no problem with that. In Western Nigeria, the constitution provided for a House of Assembly and the House of Chiefs. In Eastern Nigeria, there was no House of Chiefs because they did not think they needed one. There was no problem with that and that is the kind of Nigeria we negotiated in London, but that is different from what we have today. So, we are saying let us go back to that arrangement which all of us agreed at independence and not what Abacha imposed on us, which is very partial, unfair and one-sided. That is the meaning of restructuring; it is to restructure unfairness and give semi-autonomy to the federating units.

(We also had Regional Police and other local security services that provided unique security architecture for theier regions) emphasis mine.

The Greatest Gift Buhari should give to Nigeria is to use the remaining one year of his first term to facilitate the total restructuring of Nigeria to what our founding fathers agreed to. We appreciate the June 12, tokenism. It is symbolic. Now go all the hog and facilitate the repositioning of Nigeria to the right constitutional, political, governance, socioeconomic and fiscal framework that allowed her and the federating units to excel competitively betweenm 1957-1966. Do this for us and we would not bother you even if you want to rule to even your post humous days.

Misappropriated N6m unsettles Delta community

The alleged misappropriation of 6 Million fund said to have been released by the Delta State Government following the demolition of some property along Ughelli Asaba
Expressway belonging to the people of Ogwashi-Uku community in the State by some indigenes of Ogbe-Ubu Quarters
in the community, has sparked off fresh trouble.
Chief Austin Okeibunor, an elder statesman in Ogbe-Ubu Quarters at the weekend confirmed to journalists in Asaba that the alleged
misappropriated fund would be recovered by him soonest, adding that the Quarter will not back down in its quest to recover the community’s
fund.
It was gathered that the N6million fund was compensation paid to the community by the state government for the demolition of the
community’s property following the dualization of Ughelli-Asaba road.
But this was not to be as certain persons (names withheld) within the Ogbe-Ubu Quarters of the community allegedly hijacked the fund and
diverted it into personal pockets.
Chief Okeibunor speaking further, called on relevant security agencies to carry out anti-corruption
crusade of President Mohammadu Buhari’s administration to all nooks and crannies of the community, by standing for justice at all times.
Chief Okeibunor said that measures to recover the fund was to appeal against the judgement at the high court, even to the Supreme
Court, adding that there are video clips showing what transpired during a reconciliatory meeting between Ogbe-Ubu Quarters people and the
accused persons.
In a swift reaction, the accused persons who did not want their names in the print, denied all allegations against them, adding that for the
court to have freed them showed they were innocent of what they were
accused of.

Why We Need To Fight Inferiority Complex Among Some NCE Students In Nigeria

Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence ( Robert Frost). Schooling in Nigeria is arguably no longer a guarantee for success. The nation has gone beyond celebrating or hailing a man for becoming a graduate
with a B.A in Art or science, that was in the past and remember the past has no power over the present moment. It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop that is if you think you are moving slowly in life because you are an NCE student. The best thing for being sad is beginning to puff and blow, is to learn something. That’s the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in age, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins and your friends sermon, you may see the world about you devastated because the the dullest boy in your class at secondary school is in Degree one, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds, folks in your community, your secondary school teachers, your parents and your love. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world quivers, what quivers it and why it is quivering. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn and never stop learning.
There is no reason for you to try to become like people who see themselves as nothing and inferior in the society because they offer more than eight (8) courses in a semester and use a different lanyard and I.D card and there is no basis whatever for their impertinent assumption that they who use another lanyard and offer eight courses in a semester must accept you because they can’t feel what you are feeling neither can they see what you claim you are saying.

The terrible thing, NCE buddy, is that you must accept them. And I mean that very seriously. You must accept them and accept them with love and with the belief that the world is for both losers and winners, and winning is a thing of the mind and not a paper thing (certificate). For these innocent people are not really affected with your own inferiority state. Mind you, schooling is only a path from  conceited ignorance to miserable uncertainty.  They are, in effect, still trapped in a history which they do not understand; and until they understand it, they cannot be released from it. They have had to believe for many years, and for innumerable reasons, that NCE students are inferior to Degree students. Many of them, indeed, know better, but, as you will discover, people find it very difficult to act on what they know. If you want to get  balance, go to a school, If you want an education, update your mind and mentality. And remember, you are not a teacher, but an awakener. Don’t because of inferiority complex limit the circus of your life to a spot, the world has gone beyond papers.Save yourself from mental slavery cos’ if you don’t, some of your friends will take advantage of it.

2019: Buhari will do what he did in 1984 during second term – Sagay

Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, Itse Sagay, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term will be similar to that of 1984.
Sagay said this is because Nigerians are suffering from gross indiscipline from the ruling elites.
Sagay, a senior lawyer, said this when he fielded questions from Independent newspapers at the weekend.
He said, “It is not that I have consulted him but I believe that his second coming will see a firmer, stronger type of leadership, a bit closer to what he was in 1984.
“I think that is what Nigerians should expect because this country is suffering from gross indiscipline of the ruling elites. We have seen a whole lot of impunity in the system.
“We have seen a whole Senate being closed down because one of them is going to a Tribunal before which he is charged. That to me is gross indiscipline.
“You do not stop the whole process of legislation just to show solidarity with a person charged to court and to intimidate the court.
“That is gross indiscipline and it is unacceptable. We have other things like that in other sectors. It is indiscipline for a group of judges to give a judgment that no matter what crime they commit, they cannot be tried unless the National Judicial Council (NJC) gives the go-ahead through the institutions created by the constitution to fight crime and prosecute those charged with crimes. That is indiscipline.
“So, we have a situation in this country where everybody is doing whatever he likes. Very soon, you will find the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) prescribing that if they commit any offence, they should be brought before the NBA Disciplinary panel before they can be charged by the police. Various professions that have disciplinary panels can bring that in.
“Even the policeman can say before you can charge me for bribery or any other offence, let the Police Service Commission (PSC) decide. That is chaos and anarchy. So, I think all these things will be brought under control in his second coming.
“Also by then, we would have started feeling the benefit of the groundwork they are doing now and life will be better for Nigerians. We will begin to appreciate the government more for how they have been able transform the country. Nigerians have short memory.
“They have forgotten that this country was wrecked and ran aground by the PDP. They have forgotten that the PDP government looted everything that was available and left an empty treasury at a time when money that was coming in was limited by cost of barrel of oil and reduction in production.
“So, this government has gone through extreme difficulty to keep Nigeria afloat. However, that era is coming to an end and an era of prosperity is coming. So, one is really looking forward to the second term of Buhari and Osinbajo.”

4 Reasons Why Madrid Will Beat Arsenal In The Europa League Semi-Final

Arsenal have been drawn against Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Europa League, in what many regard as the biggest clash of the competition.
But are Arsenal capable of beating the mighty Diego Simeone’s Madrid in a two-legged tie match?
The answer is NO! See why below:

Atletico Madrid Are A Superior Side

Anyone with a simple knowledge of football this season can attest that Diego Simeone’s disciplined Atletico are clear favorites for this clash.
They are mathematically still in the La Liga title race and with a better win ratio to the gunners this season, sorry, Arsenal are underdogs coming into this one.

Peter Cech Will Fumble Again

Yes Cech will most definitely start in the two legged affair and for a goalkeeper who has picked the ball out of his own net more in 2017-18 than in any other season, Arsenal and Cech will need a miracle to stop the inform duo in Costa & Griezmann

Arsenal Have Defensive Issues

You watch Arsenal’s central defenders in Mustafi & Koscielny perform, and you think you are watching Fuji House Of Commotion.
The gunners have one of the worst defense in the league this season and no surprise they are yet to get a single point away from home in 2018 in the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger Doesn’t Have A Plan B

He is arguably one of the most successful coach in Arsenal Football Club’s history but all that ended in 2004.
Wenger has simply failed to adapt to the ‘modern type of football management’ like Guardiola and Antonio Conte, and you wonder why Arsenal have not won the Premier League in 14 years!?!
