Naira stays unchanged at N425/$1 at parallel market

Nigeria’s currency, Naira has remained at N425/$1 in the black market today, September 6, as it was on Monday, September 5, NAIJ.com can authoritatively report. This would leave Naira’s black market value unchanged for two consecutive days after it crashed to an all-time low of last week. According to currency traders and economists, the local currency poor performance at the parallel market has been triggered by increased scarcity of the greenback.

The currency hit its record low hours after a data released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed that the economy was in recession. The naira has continued to weaken in the parallel market as Bureau de change operators have been finding it difficult to access their forex account and get dollar supply, after the central bank suspended nine commercial lenders from the market last week. The CBN banned nine commercial banks from the forex market for failing to remit the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s $2.334bn into the Treasury Single Account, in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive last September. However, there is hope the Naira may rally a comeback this week as the CBN has re-instated the eight banks banned last week from operating in the country’s foreign exchange market. Also, Bureau de Change operators have also raised the hope of a gradual appreciation of the local currency in the near term, as the CBN licensed 11 new international money transfer operators to address the dollar supply side.

Opinion: Isn’t it time for a cabinet reshuffle?

President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has been under pressure over the statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics that shows a negative growth in the first two quarters of the year. Joseph Edgar in this piece advises President Buhari to immediately look at Ministries of Finance, Solid Minerals, Labour, Youth and Sports, Transport, Agriculture, Communications and Technology.
The score card has come in and the Federal Government has performed woefully. I will spare us the boredom of reeling out the stats all over again. We are in a more terrible state than we were one year ago. To mention just one indicator, over a million people have joined the labour market in just one year. This is really the lowest of all since we became a country and it is so sad that I happen to be a father and Nigerian at this time. It can no longer be business as usual. We will not withdraw our mandate as the mandate was freely and joyously given but then again we retain the right to ask questions and demand answers. The major question is, ‘What will be done by the Government to make sure that we get out of this stupor and on time?’ This question must be answered objectively and with the single-minded focus of a government that truly believes in its change mantra. For me, the first thing the Government should do on the road to recovery is to look closely at the cabinet. There should be a major earth-shaking cabinet change. The contraption that is this cabinet must be dissolved. Enough of the rent seekers, the political godfathers have been rewarded enough, their acolytes must give way for more serious minded egg-heads who have the capacity and depth to face this massive economic turbulence we are going through. What this means is, if the president is very patriotic, which I know he is, then he must forget the second term and do away with the political jobbers in his cabinet. He is the very best President we can have at this time since his strong and firm commitment to what is right and his no nonsense attitude when it comes to taking firm decisions will put his people in a strong position to implement well thought out policy initiatives. For me, the following ministers should be immediately looked into: 1. Kemi Adeosun, finance minister 2. Kayode Fayemi, minister of solid minerals 3. Chris Ngige, labour minister 4. Solomon Dalong, the minister of sport 5. Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transport 6. Akinwumi Adesina, minister of agriculture 7. Adebayo Shittu, minister of communications and technology To me, we need people in these ministries who understand the dynamics of the various sectors that they superintendent. Other Government parastatals like the Investment Promotions council and other allied organs must not be left out. We need a dynamism the present crop of technocrats despite their selfless devotion to the country simply do not have the capacity to deliver. For a country in the kind of fix we find ourselves to have a major economic parastatal to be battling with dress code just highlights the ineptitude that we face in a war situation. How will dress code help us out of the woods? Even if people have to come to work naked, let them come, as long as efficiency is returned to the work place.

COZA pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo shows off expensive Gucci bag

There’s no doubt that the senior pastor of the Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly, Abuja, Biodun Fatoyinbo, is indeed a stylish man. He has proved this time after time, through his love for luxury cars, designer items, foreign trips and luxury living in general. The man who had a luxury yacht party in Dubai on his birthday early this year, has stolen the show once again, with his expensive designer bag.
Valued at over N1million, the Gucci Web Animalia GG Supreme Tote Bag was spotted sitting pretty beside the fashion loving pastor.

BREAKING NEWS!!! President Buhari arrives Edo for APC Mega Rally

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Benin City, Edo state capital to campaign for All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of state governorship election.
Bashir Ahmad, presidential media aide on the new media, reports that Buhari’s aircraft landed at 10:20 am. President Buhari is expected to visit the Crown Prince of Benin Kingdom, Eheneden Erediauwao, before attending the mega rally.
The rally is to hold at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Nineteen candidates are contesting the September 10, 2016 governorship poll in the state, but from all indications, only five are actively involved in the campaigns. The two key candidates are: Mr Godwin Obaskei from the APC and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It is considered that the poll would be won on the basis of performance. Based on this, the APC would depend on what it achieved during its eight-year government in the state, while the PDP would hope on promises. The PDP ruled the state for 10 years before the incumbent Governor Adams Oshiomhole took over the state under the platform of the former Action Congress of Nigeria before taking the state to the APC. Oshiomhole, one of the close allies of President Buhari, is described by his supporters as a grass root politician and an unbelievable mobilizer who cannot be easily dislodged by the opposition.

Falz, Adekunle Gold, YCEE Not My Lovers – Simi Tells It All

Talented Singer Simi since her emergence in the music industry has been linked to quiet a handful of guys, especially those in the entertainment industry.
From Adekunle Gold to Falz and to the latest, Ycee. But Simi didn’t seem to help matters when she posted online recently that she was in a “loving relationship” with rap artiste, YCEE.
While speaking to Saturday Beats on that, Simi however claimed she was just “goofing around”.
She said, “There is no love triangle between Falz, Adekunle Gold and me. They are both great artistes that I work with and I enjoy working with them, that’s it. My account was not hacked when I tweeted that I was in a loving relationship with YCEE. People believe anything these days. We were obviously goofing around but some people saw it and believed. At the end of the day, I don’t think it is necessary to pay too much attention to it. Continue….
“Anybody that really paid attention to it would see that we were just playing around. I know some people took it seriously but it was a joke.
I am a very playful person and I am always goofing around but I feel that some things I say are always taken too seriously then eventually, it is taken as news.
She further disclosed that she was in a relationship, saying, “There is a love interest in my life but I cannot say if he is an entertainer or not because I don’t like to talk about my private life. Why I shroud my personal life is because everything goes into the limelight, even things that are supposed to be kept private. I feel that people should protect the things they want to keep private.
Everybody have things they go through daily but you do not need strangers to intrude in your privacy. As much as possible, keep what you can keep away from the limelight.
My lover and I met before fame came my way and he is actually the best. I think he is one of the most mature people I have met.
He is very understanding and he supports me. He pushes me to be the best I can be. When the time for marriage comes, you would get an invitation.”

My father was jailed for refusing to send me to school - Atiku

Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has attributed all his achievements and successes so far to education. Speaking at the Ford Foundation Special Reunion to mark the 80th Anniversary of Ford Foundation in Lagos, the former vice president revealed how his father was imprisoned by local authorities in Adamawa state for refusing to send him to school. He said his father tried to stop him from getting formal education because he needed his help in the farm, Leadership reports.
According to him, he would not have been allowed to go to school if the government had not forced his father, adding that could not have acquired an education if his parents were required to pay for it.
Atiku said: “My encounter with Peace Corps teachers in the 1960s had a profound impact on my life. It helped to instill in me the virtues of hard work, critical thinking, and commitment to excellence. The teachers encouraged us to develop a ‘can-do’ spirit and never to despair in order to bring out the best in us to enable us to succeed in life. In my young eyes those Peace Corpers represented excellence. They instilled in me a burning desire to look to a wider horizon to have a global outlook. “So, my encounter with the Peace Corps changed my life and education is responsible for the modest success I have achieved thus far. Because of the education I received which was paid for by the Northern Regional Government and local authorities, I was able to rise from a small village in Adamawa to the topmost level of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
He noted that his exposure to education taught him how to begin saving and investment at a very early stage in his career. The former vice president maintained that education should be free, accessible and compulsory at the primary and secondary levels. He said this would give every child an opportunity to acquire education irrespective of family circumstances.

NIGERIA vs TANZANIA

DROP YOUR PREDICTIONS
Our national team will face Tanzania in Saturday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group G qualifier in Uyo, Akaw Ibom State.
Both countries have crashed out of the 2017 AFCON, losing the group’s ticket to Egypt, so pride will obviously be the only thing at stake and it would be delicious if Gernot Rohr begins his first game as manager with a win!
In seven past meetings, Nigeria are yet to lose to Tanzania. Ahead of this weekend’s clash.
